When it comes to enjoying history, there are generally two types of people: those who love it and those who don’t. History buffs tend to read about the past for fun, watch special documentaries on television, and are quick to offer a litany of historical trivia bits in just about any conversation. But to those who could either take it or leave it, history just doesn’t appeal to their interests. Maybe the way we have been traditionally taught about history in the form of dull textbooks and boring lectures is one of the reasons people can be turned off by the subject. But exploring different ways of learning about history can lead to a new (or renewed) interest in a not-so-favorite subject.
Outdoor adventure games like Get Beyond the Walls are a great way to learn about the history of a city through fun game play. By participating in a real-life adventure, team members will explore their city and its early foundational days. Perhaps your city was established on a system of rivers that were integral for early settlers and trading? Or maybe your town’s founders built military forts for protection during wars, and those structures are still standing today after several hundred years? Most cities have such a rich history that locals know very little or even nothing about. Who knows, maybe a once-famous artist, controversial journalist or powerful civil rights leader was one of your city’s first residents… you’ll never know until you GO! Discover all the fascinating facts your city has to offer by actually taking part in a real-life adventure full of exploration, puzzle solving, and scavenger hunting. You might end up being more of a history buff than you ever knew—and you might even find how much fun it is to learn about the historical beginnings of your hometown!
Being active outdoors has been proven to offer several benefits, including improved sleep, boosted academic performance, and overall increased happiness.
(https://www.todaysparent.com/kids/kids-health/unexpected-benefits-of-outdoor-play/) In an age where technology seems to rule, the simplicity of outdoor exploration has been all but lost to many. Think back to the days of tree climbing, creek stomping, bike riding, fort building and just plain outside fun—in today’s world it’s becoming rarer for families and kids to truly enjoy the great outdoors and everything it has to offer. While our children may be able to teach us endless amounts of information about technology, we too, can be teachers—we owe it to our kids to share all the wonderful things about being outside! Think of a traditional scavenger hunt, combined with clues for solving puzzles, all while exploring your very own city. Get Beyond the Walls is a great, unique way to incorporate game play through an app that focuses on exploring your city and everything there is to learn. You and your friends or family can check out unexpected local treasures and historical facts while playing a fun scavenger hunt-style game. You’ll walk through neighborhoods you’ve never before seen, see historical landmarks you might miss on a regular basis, and learn fun, new things about your city from a totally new perspective through playing a fun game! Outdoor activities like Get Beyond the Walls appeal to the younger generation with a smartphone-friendly app that allows teams to track their progress. It’s a great way to try something new and encourage them to participate in a group activity that’s a blast, yet at the same time is educational! Team members all utilize various skills like problem-solving, working together toward a common goal, and drawing upon social and historical knowledge. Teach your loved ones that being outside is FUN—and a great learning opportunity for anyone at any age! |
